Variety details
Distinguishing Traits
Kellogg's Breakfast produces large heirloom fruits that are a vivid orange both inside and out, having ripened from green to that bright orange hue at maturity. The flesh is sweet and tangy, wrapped in the thin skin and meaty interior typical of beefsteak-style tomatoes. Fitting that texture, the variety is classified as a type of beefsteak tomato.
Performance
The vines are indeterminate and can climb to six feet, so like other indeterminate tomatoes they do best when given a trellis or similar support, which keeps the plant off the soil and away from the pests and diseases that soil contact invites. Plants also need full sun and plenty of open space to produce their fruit.
Historical Origin
Kellogg's Breakfast is an heirloom tomato that has become a signature variety recognized by many tomato growers and vendors.
