Variety details
Distinguishing Traits
Prairie Fire grows as a compact, semi-determinate plant that sets elongated, pointy-tipped, grape-shaped fruits averaging about three inches long and an inch wide. The skin is bright red, marked with subtle golden striping or gold flecks that shimmer over a solid, deep-red interior. Beyond its shape and color, the fruit stands out for its sweetness, carrying a Brix measurement around 10 that gives it a notably sugary flavor.
Uses
The petite, sweet fruits are well suited to eating straight off the vine as a garden snack, and they also work in salads, sandwiches, and general slicing use. Its compact habit means it can be grown successfully in pots as well as in open garden beds.
Performance
Prairie Fire matures early and yields abundantly on vigorous, healthy plants that perform well both in the greenhouse and in open-field conditions. Growers have found the compact plants to remain healthy and vigorous through the season, and the harvested fruits hold up nicely once picked from the vine.
