Variety details
Distinguishing Traits
Joi Choi is a white-stemmed pak choi, a hybrid that produces highly uniform heads in size, shape, and maturity. It is a vigorous grower, forming large plants with compact, dense heads built from fleshy white stems and dark-green leaves. Those stalks are thick, sweet, mild, and juicy, giving the plant a delicate flavour beneath its dark foliage.
Uses
Because its heads mature so uniformly in size and shape, a planting of Joi Choi can be harvested in a single pass rather than picked over selectively as individual heads reach size.
Performance
Joi Choi can be sown in cool soil and grows to about 45cm tall. The mature plant is somewhat cold-hardy, which allows a second sowing in late summer for fall and winter harvests. It is suited to year-round production in both field and hydroponic systems.
